Source A comes from a photograph taken by the guardian archive and therefore the tone of the source is neutral.

Source A tells me that the British soldiers were the victims as there are a lot of British trying their level best to maintain order against the Protesters during bloody Sunday and is risking their lives while trying to do so as the source shows a photograph of British soldiers being thrown stones at during the bloody Sunday incident. Based on my background knowledge, the protest was initiated by the Catholics and the NICRA( Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association) who would do anything to drive the British out of Northern Ireland, attacked the British soldiers in an attempt to ask for their rights. Therefore, source A is reliable in providing reliable evidences that the British soldiers were the victims in the bloody Sunday riots.

1(b)
Source B tells me that the protestants are more comfortable being a british rather than a Irish and has a made a place in the heart for united kingdom as the source tells me " we positively want to be part of the united kingdom, not in the negative sense that we fear a united Ireland, but for the positive reason that we have feeling of belonging; we feel we are identified by a common ethnic background ;....we feel united in terms of our common history".

However, Source C tells me that the both religions is trying to patch up and live together once again by introducing new ways to bring about a bright future for both religions as the source tells me" Hopefully our kids will keep their friendship with each other when they go back and will pass along the idea that to hate someone , not associate with them because they're a different denomination, is a bit silly. Not worth the effort, really."

The tone of both sources are different.

The tone of source B could be biased as it comes from a view expressed by a protestants adult. Based my background knowledge, the adults of both religions is fighting against each other. However the tone of source C is neutral as based on my background knowledge, a priest from Ireland decided to bring in both the religions to stay together for a month so as to know each other, wanted to bring both religions together.

The purpose of both sources are different,

The purpose of source B is to make people believe that the protestants wanted to join back with republic of Ireland but is helpless due to the favors of the British. However, the purpose of source C is to influence people that there is a slight chance in bringing the catholics and protestants together but it is not going to happen in the present generation but the future generation.

1(c)
Source A tells me that the British soldiers were being attacked and targeted by the rioters as the source shows British soldiers injured after being hit by stones thrown by the rioters. Based on my background knowledge, some of the British army soldiers are protestants and while the rioters are catholics and therefore source A suggest that protestants and catholics are on bad terms.

Source B tells me that protestants prefer living among British people compared to Irish people as the source tells me " The whole upbringing.....was that Northern Ireland was a part of Britain : you switch on a television and you watch the BBC; at school you sing songs from London. Therefore Source B does suggest that protestants and catholics are on bad terms.

Source C tells me that the ulster project was needed to end the conflicts between the two religions as the situation was getting out of hand as the source tells me" We shouldn't let religion divide us. You see these kids together, and they bare all the same underneath. Back home, in Northern Ireland, religion is the thing that divides us. It marks us and that's that." Therefore, source c does suggest that protestants and catholics are on bad terms.

Source D tells me that catholics wants the country to be given back to them so as to end all the conflicts between them as the source tells me" Britain has done a lot for Ireland. I think they should give( the country) to us, but i don't think it should be violence that will bring it about." Therefore source d does not suggest that protestants and catholics are on bad terms.

In conclusion, Sources A, B and C suggest that protestants and catholics are on bad terms.
